SEO for Restaurants and Cafés: Menus, Maps and Reviews

Crawlable menus, accurate hours, photos and reviews that help diners choose you.

By the Seozumi editorial team · · about 4 min read

When people look for somewhere to eat, they usually search on their phone and decide quickly based on the map, photos, opening hours, menu and reviews. Restaurant SEO is mostly about making that information accurate, complete and easy to find.

Google Business Profile comes first

  • Choose the most specific category (for example “Italian restaurant”, “Coffee shop”).
  • Keep regular hours and holiday hours accurate; wrong hours lose customers immediately.
  • Add attributes that apply: outdoor seating, vegetarian options, wheelchair access, takeaway, delivery.
  • Add a menu link and reservation or ordering links if you have them.
  • Upload real photos of dishes, the interior and the exterior so people recognize the entrance.

Make your menu crawlable

Many restaurants upload the menu only as a PDF or a photo. Search engines can sometimes read PDFs, but an HTML menu page is easier for both people on phones and search engines:

  • Dish names, short descriptions, prices and dietary labels as text.
  • Sections (starters, mains, desserts, drinks) as headings.
  • A PDF version as an extra download, not the only option.
  • Update it whenever prices or dishes change.

Your website basics

  • Address, phone, hours and a map on the homepage or a clear contact page.
  • Tap-to-call and directions links on mobile; see the mobile SEO checklist.
  • Fast loading despite large food photos; compress images.
  • Restaurant structured data with address, hours, cuisine and menu URL.

Reviews

Diners read reviews carefully. Ask happy guests to leave a review (a small card or QR code at the table works), reply to reviews politely, and address recurring complaints in the restaurant itself. Never offer free items in exchange for reviews or post fake ones.

Local content worth publishing

  • Pages for private dining, events or catering, if you offer them.
  • Seasonal menus and special events, with dates.
  • The story of your dishes or suppliers, if it is genuinely interesting.
  • Clear allergen and dietary information.

Delivery platforms and listings

Keep your name, address and phone identical across delivery apps, booking platforms and directories. Mismatched information confuses customers and search engines.

Quick checklist

  • Profile category, hours and attributes accurate.
  • HTML menu with prices.
  • Fresh photos.
  • Reservation/order links working.
  • Reviews answered.
  • Consistent details on every platform.
